Summer in Arizona is hot. No really, We smile at 101 degree temps because most days we reach 111 degrees with no problem. Like NY winters, we try to stay indoors but it can get quite boring. I make sure to have a steady supply of “calm my nerves” activities so that I don’t get cabin fever. Here are my current loves.
Summer List of My Favorite Things
The Masters of Fashion Illustration by Wendy Piersall is an adult coloring book featuring fashion plates of some of the best vintage fashion magazine covers. I am obsessed with this coloring book. I even bought a brand new set of colored pencils to use just with these illustrations. Coloring is a very relaxing way to end the day and it helps with my anxiety-ridden mind. I have all of Piersall’s books and do enjoy them all, but this is by far my favorite.
Orphan Black on Amazon Video is a favorite to watch with Andrew, who I am happy to say I got hooked on it last year. There are currently four seasons and I am re-watching them all. A show about cloning, eugenics, and living on the edge of society? It’s quite enjoyable and not kid-friendly! Pop some popcorn and let The Sestra’s remind you of why having friends is necessary!
Ticket to Ride, a Board Game, has become a staple with the family. It’s an adventure in a box and we get to compete with each other, working to earn the longest route between destinations. This is fun for the whole family and if you bu it, I promise that you’ll never have to play Monopoly or Candy Land again. I can’t wait to try the other variations of the game.
Cooking my way through The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook by Mickey Trescott is my goal for the summer. I was looking for a way to get back to a modified Paleo lifestyle and with inflammation, thyroid, and gut issues, this seemed like the smartest way to go. The dishes in this cookbook are interesting and flavorful. I particularly like Sage Braised Chicken Legs and the Rosemary Roasted Carrots and Parsnips.
